City of Yuma Releases, February 16-17
City Of Yuma Road Report, Feb. 16
32nd Street reconstruction, Avenue A to west of Avenue B
From approximately 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 17, 32nd Street will be closed at Avenue B for installation of a traffic signal mast arm. Avenue B will be restricted to single lanes of traffic through the 32nd Street intersection during that time. Traffic should otherwise return to its project state, which has 32nd Street primarily reduced to one lane each direction from just east of Avenue A to west of Avenue B with most left turns prohibited and speed limit reduced to 25 mph. Some left turns from Avenue B approaching 32nd Street may be restricted as well.
In this 32nd Street project, a contractor working for the City is reconstructing the entire pavement and improving various intersections in this corridor. If all goes well the project will take roughly 6 months to complete.
16th Street at Avenue B
Turns will be prohibited from the right westbound lane of 16th Street onto Avenue B through mid-afternoon Friday for curb and sidewalk work adjacent to the pharmacy there.
4th Avenue side street utility crossings, 1st Street to 28th Street
A contractor working for the City is conducting a series of evening and overnight projects where crews will replace utility lines underneath 4th Avenue at various side street intersections north of Catalina Drive and south of 1st Street.
On Thursday, Feb. 16 and continuing through Monday, Feb. 20, work will concentrate in the 4th Avenue intersection with 20th Place. Starting 7:30 p.m. on work evenings, 20th Place will be closed between 3rd Avenue and 5th Avenue. Then, starting about 9 p.m. those evenings, 4th Avenue will be closed in all directions at 20th Place. Northbound 4th Avenue traffic can detour using 1st Avenue (or 3rd Avenue for short distances). Southbound 4th Avenue traffic can detour using 8th Avenue.
Once work completes on 20th Place, the contractor will move up to the intersection of 4th Avenue and 20th Street, with work expected there through Feb. 27. Each day, 4th Avenue will be patched and reopened in time for morning commutes, usually by 5 a.m.
Other 4th Avenue intersections that will be involved over the course of this project:
- 2nd Street
- 6th Street
- 10th Street
- 11th Street
- 13th Street
- 14th Street

Avenue C, 8th Street to 1st Street and Figueroa – Yuma County
Yuma County is widening Avenue C from 8th Street to Figueroa Street and 1st Street. This will include placing a City Of Yuma water main down the middle of the road. Avenue C is now closed to through traffic between 8th Street and Riverside Drive; follow detour signs accordingly.
City of Yuma street maintenance
City street crews will conduct crack-seal maintenance the week of Feb. 20 in the following locations:
12th Street from Avenue B to Avenue C
Additionally, crews will conduct grinding operations the week of Feb. 20 in the following locations: Catalina Drive from 4th Avenue to Palo Verde Street Catalina Drive from Palo Verde Street to 32nd Street 3rd Avenue between Orange Avenue and 15th Street
Motorists are advised that road closures, lane restrictions and detours may be in effect in the course of this work. Normal traffic flow will resume as time and weather permits.
Main Street on Tuesdays
Motorists are advised that Main Street will be closed between 2nd Street and 3rd Street on Tuesdays between 7 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. for the annual series of Farmer’s Market events scheduled to take place Dec. 6 through March 27, 2012.
32nd Street manhole replacements between Pacific and 3E
A contractor will be replacing manholes south of 32nd Street in the vicinity between Pacific Avenue and Avenue 3E. The majority of this work will take place off the roadway, so no major or lasting impacts to 32nd Street traffic are expected.

Special Price Extended For Theatre’s Chair Adoption Program
Half-price special continue to Feb. 24
Yuma, Ariz.- Interest and demand in the special price to adopt Historic Yuma Theatre chairs for half price has been strong – but with chairs still available, the special 100th anniversary price has been extended.
The “Take a Seat for the Centennial” program’s special price of $100 per chair has been extended to Feb. 24. This unique adopt-a-chair project is an opportunity to invest in the legacy of artistic excellence that entertains, educates, and enlightens thousands of adults and children each year.
“Well over 100 chairs have been adopted so far during this promotion,” said Rex Ijams, Arts and Culture Program Manager for the City of Yuma. “What’s fascinating is that the program has drawn international interest, with two chairs being adopted from a patron of the arts in Shanghai.”
The public was invited to “Take A Seat for the Centennial” in celebration of the Historic Yuma Theatre’s 100th anniversary. Contributions are tax-deductible. The chair(s) of choice will be identified with an inscribed dedication plate and contributors also receive a certificate of participation. After Feb. 24 the chair adoptions return to their regular price of $200.
To “Take A Seat for the Centennial” please drop by the Yuma Art Center at 254 S. Main St. in Yuma or call 928-373-5202. Pledge forms can also be available via e-mail. Once complete, please mail or deliver the pledge card, with your payment, to the Yuma Art Center.
