Thursday, March 4, 7:00pm — Arizona Western College presents “Trashed” in the Schoening Conference Center, AWC’s 3C building, an inspirational stand- up comedy program based on the life lessons of Wendi Fox.  Wendi is a professional stand-up comedian and former high-risk drinker. This Alcohol Awareness Program takes the audience on a roller coaster ride of comedy and catastrophe all slammed together. “Trashed” is a combination of hysterical observations, profound questions and life lessons learned.

Thursday-Friday, March 4-5 – Arizona Western College invites the public to this year’s Educational Transfer Week to give students and the community an opportunity to discuss furthering their higher education all in one stop on the AWC campus! AWC’s Transfer Services, Student Support Services and Advisement Services will be hosting this year’s event.  THURSDAY, MARCH 4 Transfer Fair 10:00am-1:30pm. This informational fair setting will allow current students to discuss opportunities in financial aid, scholarships and academic programs available at the different colleges and universities. Students will have the opportunity to speak with representatives from different universities, ask questions, and explore choices. There will be more than 17 university representatives on campus. FRIDAY, MARCH 5 UA Field Trip: Targeting students who are getting ready to transfer to the university and need to finalize their paperwork. Also new students will benefit on this type of activity because it expose them to a university environment.

Save The Prison Events, happening now:
through March 29, K.I.D.S. Cuddlekit Closet — This local non-profit group is selling 6 different commemorative prints of the prison and 100% of the proceeds will be donated to the prison. Photographer Julie Evans is donating the photographs for this project. K.I.D.S. recently authored and published a book that includes a page about the prison. Thursday, March 11, 10:00am-noon — The C-SPAN Civics Bus is on the road to Yuma, AZ!  The 45-foot mobile production studio and demonstration center will travel to Yuma to share C-SPAN’s education and civic resources with library visitors at the Foothills Library, 13226 E. South Frontage Rd. With new interior features that include the latest television production equipment, the C-SPAN Civics Bus allows students, teachers and other visitors the chance to tour the bus and learn about the many resources C-SPAN offers, including the network’s education website, C-SPAN Classroom (www.c-spanclassroom.org ), a free membership service for educators with downloadable video clips; the C-SPAN Video library (www.c-spanarchives.org  ); and C-SPAN’s television coverage of federal government including events on healthcare, the economy, and more.  The Civics Bus will move on to the Wellton Library, 28790 San Jose Ave., from 12:30-2:30pm.

Saturday, March 13, 10:30am — Local authors Shirley Woodhouse Murdock and James A. Gillaspie will discuss their book “The Longest Flight: Yuma’s Quest for the Future” at the Wellton Library, 28790 San Jose Avenue. The book chronicles an endurance flight undertaken in 1949 by Bob Woodhouse (Murdock’s brother) and Woody Jongeward to entice the military to keep the U.S. Army Yuma Test Branch (now Yuma Proving Ground) open and to reopen the World War II Army air base (now Marine Corps Air Station Yuma). The aviators set a new record by staying airborne in the City of Yuma for 1,124 hours. A brief documentary produced by KAET/Channel 8 and Arizona State University will also be shown. Saturday, March 13, 11:00am — Yuma County Sheriff Posse will be raising money for St. Jude’s Children Hospital, by inviting riders and their horses to the West Wetlands Park. Last Saturday of each month, 2:00pm — The Wellton Teen Anime Club will meet at Wellton Library, 28790 San Jose Avenue in Wellton, to watch anime films and discuss the best of manga books at the library.
